Camp Letts

Our 5th graders spent last Monday and Tuesday (October 8th and 9th) at Camp Letts in Edgewater, MD.  This was the 5th graders' first over night field trip as middle schoolers.  Eight teachers, including myself, chaperoned the trip, which proved to be a huge success.  Led by the knowledgeable Camp Letts's staff, the campers learned canoeing, archery, zip lining, and team building.  Please see below for highlights from Camp Letts!

Let's Go O's!

Last Friday was black and orange Spirit Day.  My 5th and 6th grade students played a fun game called Four Way Dodge Ball.  A player can be called out one of two ways:

1. by being struck by a ball;
2. by having their ball caught.

When either scenario happens, a student simply moves to the quadrant from which they were hit, or from where their ball was caught.  Therefore, no player is ever completely out.  The quadrant that has "recruited" the most players when time runs out is the winner.  Below you will find pictures from this fun and spirited day:

Hagel look-alikes!

It is Spirit Week in the MS.  Today's theme was "students dress like teachers, and teachers dress like students."  Throughout the day, I noticed many gym clothes sporting, beard growing, lanyard wearing students walking around school.  I decided to dress like one of my 6th grade flag-football players, hence my jersey and flag belt.  Here is a great picture that captures some the many Mr. Hagel's in the building today:

Mrs. Lears look-alikes also stormed the MS:

 Mrs. Lears and I were excited to see so many PE teachers on campus today!
