Cross Country
I have the pleasure of coaching the Calvert School cross country team this fall. On Tuesday, we had our first meet at Saint James Academy. The course covered two miles around Saint James' beautiful campus on what turned out to be a absolute perfect day for running. There were approximately 225 total participants in the race, and Calvert placed three runners in the top ten! All 18 of our runners did a fantastic job and are excited to keep training hard, and race again next week. Great job everyone! Please see below for some pictures from the meet:

Team Building in the Gym
Recently, all 6th grade advisories met in the gym for some good old fashioned advisory competitions. This time, the goal of the activity was to foster team work amongst each advisory. Each group had to use two gym mats to successfully make it across the gym without any members of their advisory touching the floor. Those advisories that worked together and came up with an efficient plan of action fared best. It was very enjoyable for the 6th grade advisors to watch our groups work through this challenge. Here are some pictures that recap the exciting event!

7th grade P.E.
Earlier this week, we had a great time in P.E. As always, the 7th graders started with a dynamic warm-up:
- 5 Laps
- Frankensteins (dynamic hamstring stretch) - 1 length of the gym
- Walking Lunges - 1 length of the gym
- Walking quad stretch - 1 length of the gym
- 3 Sprints (down and back = 1)
- 15 Push-ups
- 25 Crunches
Sufficiently warmed up, my students competed in a relay that turned out to be harder than they initially thought:
Next, the 7th graders participated in a fun game called "Nitro Ball." The game is played over a volleyball net and the rules are similar to volleyball, but inverted. The ball is slightly larger, and instead of not allowing the ball to hit the court, players must allow the ball to bounce once before sending it back over the net. This game proved to be a great lead-up game to prepare the students for the future volleyball unit.
